The Blues got "kinged" Saturday night at Scottrade Center, the Los Angeles Kings hanging on for a 2-1 win despite late game, short-handed pressure by St. Louis.
Blues' netminder, Chris Mason, was undoubtedly the reason the Blues where in the game at all, based on the bulk of the game play.
The Blues, however, showed promising signs of playing a better brand of hockey with roughly 10 minutes remaining. They'd taken a minor penalty and yet managed to put offensive pressure on the Kings. Then, with about a half-minute remaining on the minor, drew another minor, compounding the problems of being down two goals.
At the time, there were about seven minutes left, but the shorthanded pressure continued. Eventually, the Blues would score on a goal that required a review.
Though the Blues pulled Mason with about a minute left, and, heightened the pressure on the Kings, they could not find the net and went down by a goal, 2-1, a tough one to take on the road.
The Blues, though, did seem to break through to a point where they played fast and loose, yet under a strategic control relative to the situation at hand. In other words, the Blue Notes probably benefited regardless of the loss.
They have a week until their next contest, in Phoenix versus the Coyotes next Thursday night at 9:00 p.m. CT.
